Corwin Bell has been passionately working with bees for over 20 years. He practices a holistic approach in caring for bees that focuses on enhancing the bee’s immune system through attentive listening, right timing and sustainable methods. In the bee guardianship courses Corwin teaches, he reveals a connection between bees and humankind as symbolic of a broader interconnection between humans and the natural world. Corwin promotes a “backyard” hive method and philosophy which encourages and inspires interested and willing individuals to connect with bees through an altruistic Guardianship that goes beyond hobbyist beekeeping. Bell travels widely giving lectures and workshops to raise awareness of honeybee genetic biodiversity and to promote alternatives to conventional beekeeping practices.
A computer animator/filmmaker by trade, Corwin is a keen observer of honeybee behavior (in the wilds of Boulder, Colorado, and in his top bar hives), yet has remained refreshingly naive in terms of what the “experts” “know” about honeybee behavior. His perspective offers a wealth of understanding, a view from a slightly different angle than is the norm. Corwin films hours of honeybee footage of well-adapted colonies, enabling him to observe unnoticed micro behaviors. He also has organized an army of Bee Guardians and swarm retrievers that is as well organized as any beehive, and he travels the world to witness beekeeping under every condition imaginable.
Corwin has just finished a new, full-length top bar “how to” DVD.
