Miriam’s Kitchen Washington DC

While we were in Washington D.C., my wife Gina and I had the privilege of preparing a meal, and serving the homeless community at Miriam’s Kitchen. A portion of the produce that is grown in the White House garden, is prepared at Miriam’s Kitchen. This was an incredible experience, and it was an honor to be able to serve such incredible people.

Our day started by visiting the local farmer’s market, to select produce that was being donated by local farmers. Their graciousness allows Miriam’s Kitchen to serve fresh, home-grown foods to those in need. We also made a quick stop along the way to the farmers market, at a community garden that also was donating to this incredible cause.

We arrived back from the market at mid-day, and immediately began preparing the night meal. I must say, I was quite envious of that nights menu. Miriam’s has a mission to provide the needy with the same healthy options that most others can afford.

After a few hours of preparation, the meal was ready to be served to approximately 150 members of the community. I could not be more humbled by the graciousness of every person who came through the line that day. Smile and gratitude filled the room.

I left Miriam’s Kitchen that day with a sense of community, and an understanding that we are all interconnected. I would have to say this was one of the highlights of my Washington DC trip.
